Getting Started
Applicants to the Alfred University Downstate (off-campus) program go through the same admissions screening as applicants to the on-campus literacy program. All admissions decisions are made by full-time Alfred University faculty who are members of the literacy program admissions committee.

Matriculation Requirements
The following items are required as part of the application process:
A completed Alfred University graduate school application
    Apply online
    Send a $60 application fee (Make checks out to Alfred University)
Two letters of recommendation from individuals (supervisors, previous professors) who can attest to your qualifications for graduate study.
Official undergraduate transcripts
Official graduate transcripts (if applicable)
Initial New York State Teaching Certification
Immunization records
Personal Statement

Application Deadine
The Master’s Degree in Literacy is a cohort program which starts each summer on-campus at Alfred University in July. The application deadline for summer 2010 admission is May 15th, 2010.

Application Procedures
Students interested in applying should contact the Alfred University Downstate degree program office for further information, 1-877-922-2483 or visit the Apply Now section of this website. As soon as you apply, you should send the yellow post card directly to the Alfred University Downstate program office.

Financial Information
The fee for each three-credit course is $900. Courses on campus cost $950. The complete cost for the 30-credit Master’s Degree is $9,000. Tuition is due on the first day of each class. Tuition can be paid by cash, check, credit card or money order. Please note: You may pay for each course as you take it or pay per semester. Financial aid is available through Alfred University.

Convenient Schedule
Courses are offered on Saturdays and Sundays during the school year and Monday - Friday during school vacations and summers. Course location and dates are subject to change.

Credit Transfers
Alfred University may accept up to six graduate credits for transfer into the literacy program. Students who are interested in transferring credits into the program should submit a request, along with official transcripts and course descriptions, to Alfred University. Course credentials and relevance are subject to review by Alfred University faculty.    Please see the Apply Now section of this website for the Transfer Request Form

Please Note:

Grades are expected from the instructor two weeks after the last day of class. Grades will not be released unless all financial/tuition obligations are met.

If you have any outstanding financial obligations, you will not be permitted to enroll in future classes. Once your account it current, you may enroll.

CITE cannot issue transcripts. You must obtain a transcript directly from Alfred University.

Immunizations
In accordance with the NY State Department of Health Law (section 2165) students are required to provide a copy of their MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) immunization record. Students can obtain their record from their physician or undergraduate school. Credit and transcripts will not be released until these records are submitted. Please use the following Alfred Downstate Immunization Form. Fax your records to 607-871-2631.
