MASTER’S IN SCHOOL COUNSELING PROGRAM DETAILS

Getting Started
Applicants to the Alfred University Downstate (off-campus) program go through the same admissions screening as applicants to the on-campus counseling program. All admissions decisions are made by full-time Alfred University faculty who are members of the counseling program admissions committee..

Application Requirements
The following items are required as part of the application process:
A completed Alfred University graduate school application
    Apply online
  Paper application
    Send a $50 application fee (Make checks out to Alfred University)
Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores (verbal, quantitative, analytical writing)
Official transcripts of all previous undergraduate and graduate work
Two letters of recommendation from individuals (supervisors, previous professors) who can attest to your qualifications for graduate study
A written personal statement
A personal interview with program faculty

Applicants whose written materials meet the basic requirements for admission will be interviewed periodically during the school year in Brooklyn and Long Island. We will contact applicants to schedule interviews.

Application Deadline
The Master’s Degree in School Counseling is a cohort program which starts each summer on-campus at Alfred University during the last week in July. The Application deadline for summer 2009 admission is May 15th, 2009.

Application Procedures
Students interested in applying should contact the Alfred University Downstate degree program office for further information, 1-877-922-2483, or visit the Apply Now section of this website.   As soon as you apply, you should send the blue post card directly to the Alfred University Downstate program office.

Program Process
Classes are offered on Saturdays and Sundays in downtown Brooklyn and Saturdays on Long Island. Students will progress through the program in a cohort. Required courses must be taken in the sequence provided. As part of a cohort you’ll develop connections and relationships with a group of New York area soon-to-be guidance counselors.

Practicum
Each student is required to complete two Practica. These Practica consist of a required number of hours working in a counseling setting in addition to group meetings.

Financial Information
The fee for each three-credit course is $900. The complete cost for the 48-credit Master’s Degree is $14,400. Tuition can be paid by cash, check, credit card or money order. Please note: You may pay for each course as you take it or pay per semester. Financial aid is available through Alfred University.

Transfer Credits
Alfred University will allow up to six transfer credits. Only courses taken before students enter the program can be transferred. Transfer credits are subject to evaluation by Alfred University faculty.  Please see the Apply Now section of this website for the Transfer Request Form

Convenient Schedule
Courses are offered on Saturdays and Sundays during the school year and Monday through Friday during school vacations and summers. Course location and dates are subject to change.

Please Note:

Grades are expected from the instructor two weeks after the last day of class. Grades will not be released unless all financial/tuition obligations are met.

If you have any outstanding financial obligations, you will not be permitted to enroll in future classes. Once your account it current, you may enroll.

CITE cannot issue transcripts. You must obtain a transcript directly from Alfred University.

Immunizations
In accordance with NY State Department of Health Law (section 2165) students are required to provide a copy of their MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) immunization record. Students can obtain their record from their physician or undergraduate school. Credit and transcripts will not be released until these records are submitted. Please use the Alfred Downstate Immunization form. Fax your records to 607-871-2631.
