MASTER’S DEGREE IN SCHOOL COUNSELING

Getting Started: MS in School Counseling
Applicants to the Alfred University Downstate (off-campus) program go through the same admissions screening as applicants to the on-campus counseling program. All admissions decisions are made by full-time Alfred University faculty who are members of the counseling program admissions committee.

Application Requirements: MS in School Counseling
The following items are required as part of the application process:
A completed Alfred University graduate school application
    Apply online
    Send a $60 application fee (Make checks out to Alfred University)
Official sealed transcripts of all previous undergraduate and graduate work 
Two letters of recommendation from individuals (supervisors, previous professors) who can attest to your qualifications for graduate study
A written personal statement
A personal interview with program faculty

Applicants whose written materials meet the basic requirements for admission will be interviewed periodically during the school year. We will contact applicants to schedule interviews.

MASTER’S DEGREE IN LITERACY

Getting Started: MS in Literacy
Applicants to the Alfred University Downstate (off-campus) program go through the same admissions screening as applicants to the on-campus literacy program. All admissions decisions are made by full-time Alfred University faculty who are members of the literacy program admissions committee.

Matriculation Requirements: MS in Literacy

Initial New York State Teaching Certification
Interview with a faculty member

CERTIFICATE OF ADVANCED STUDY IN MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELING

Getting Started: Master’s in Counseling and Certificate of Advanced Study in Mental Health Counseling
Applicants to the Alfred University Downstate (off-campus) programs go through the same admissions screening as applicants to the on-campus program. All admissions decisions are made by full-time Alfred University faculty who are members of the admissions committee.

Application Requirements
The following items are required as part of the application process:
A completed Alfred University graduate school application
    Apply online
    Send a $60 application fee (Make checks out to Alfred University)
Two applicant evaluation forms. (Letters of recommendations alone will not be accepted for this program. Only complete applicant evaluation forms will be accepted as application materials. AU Downstate Counseling Program Alumni
Graduates of the Downstate School Counseling must complete an abbreviated application form that updates personal information and indicates that they are applying to the program. Once admitted to the program, they must again pay a $200 enrollments deposit that will be refunded once they complete the program. There are no other materials required for AU Downstate Alumni.
